How do we keep the memory of loved ones with us in the here and now? What choices do we have when memorializing them? Sometimes, a simple household object, like a piece of jewelry or clothing can possess healing power for those in mourning. At Show & Tale, each participant is invited to bring an object of their choice with the intention of honoring a loved one and to share the story behind it. No need to rehearse, some explanations may sound like, “This is my sister’s feather boa she wore in the 70’s and since her death, I’ve kept it around my favorite photograph of her,” or “This is my dad’s leather belt that I’ve kept for years and somehow can’t part with it…” If you prefer not to share, you can opt just to listen in this interactive Zoom session.
This workshop on remembrance will be led by Green-Wood’s mainstay Death Educator and funeral director Amy Cunningham along with guest speaker Martie McNabb, founder of “Memories Out of the Box.” “Memories Out of the Box” is a creative memorialization firm and ongoing project that helps people create one-of-a-kind heirloom scrapbooks, printed and digital books, and personal remembrance projects.
